Media Coverage

Another way to make people hear about you is getting reporters to cover your brand. It’s not just a free advertising, but also a great way to boost SEO for your small business. As we’ve mentioned before, when your links are being shared on websites, that have high ranks, it will also help your own page too rank up. And of course it also comes in symbiosis with your local SEO strategy, what gives your brand a much better search traffic. There are many tools, that can help you for getting earned media coverage, but the best one is HARO (Help a Reporter Out), which is absolutely free.

Reporters always look for new material to write articles about, and your business can be one for them. Of course not every single reporter will choose to write about you, but you spend a lot of time on writing high-quality content, that people will be interested in, so someone will write about your business.

Those links, that will be shared by reporters will boost your SEO surprisingly much. But here are 3 tips, that will help you get good content, that will be good enough to be shared on media:

1.    Pitch a story. Journalists and bloggers have very tight schedules. They don’t have much time, that’s why they will surely ignore messages like “I have a great idea! Contact me to learn more!”. Get to the point immediately and write out what you want to tell them. After that, if they are interested, they will choose to contact you by themselves.
2.    Be succinct. Don’t write stories about your little adventure as a small business owner. Keep it short. First write a short greeting, then get to the point. Just try to make your paragraph enough to make them fully understand what you want from them. If it’s necessary to give full comprehension of your idea, then it’s alright to go longer, but you must make text in way so they can get the point by reading only few sentences.
3.    Dot your I’s and cross your T’s. Make sure your contact information is correct, and carefully edit your pitch. You may even need someone, to check your spelling, punctuation and organization, to make sure everything is in order, so it doesn’t scare them away.
Getting your brand covered by reporters and bloggers is hard, because if you are a small business owner, they may think that, even if you have a great idea, it will be an absolute waste of time, to write about you, your brand and your great plans to come. Just write everything right and someone surely will be interested in making you a hero of today’s new publication.
